Das touristisch Imaginäre in Ursulas Werken
Ursulas Werke und Schriften beziehen sich oft auf touristische Elemente wie beliebte Urlaubsziele, Massen- und Luxustourismus, Hotels, Postkarten, Sehenswürdigkeiten, Wahrzeichen, touristische Panoramen und Skylines, Urlaubswerbung und sogar Reisebüros. Dieser Vortrag wird eine Reihe von ihren Werken erkunden und sich vom Strandurlaub bis zur Städtereise auf Schlüsselorte in Deutschland und im Ausland konzentrieren. Ursula konstruiert in diesen Werken ihre eigene Version des touristisch Imaginären und verwandelt dabei das, wie sie beschreibt, „banal Alltägliche von Um- und Konsumwelt“ in fantastische Reisen.

The Tourist Imaginary in Ursula’s Works
Ursula’s artworks and writings often draw on tourist elements such as popular holiday destinations, mass and luxury tourism, hotels, postcards, sights, landmarks, tourist panoramas and skylines, holiday advertising, and even travel agencies. This talk will explore a range of her works, focusing on key sites in Germany and abroad, from beach holidays to city breaks. In these works, Ursula constructs her own version of the tourist imaginary, transforming what she describes as “the banal everyday of the environmental and consumer world” into fantastic journeys.

Patricia Allmer is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art History at the University of Edinburgh. Her scholarly and curatorial work focuses on Surrealism and on modern and contemporary women artists. Her many books and exhibitions include The Traumatic Surreal: Germanophone Women Artists and Surrealism after the Second World War (Manchester UP, 2022), René Magritte (Reaktion Press, 2019), Lee Miller: Photography, Surrealism, and Beyond (Manchester UP, 2016), Taking Shots: The Photography of William S.
