Werkzeug und Material, oder Wade Guyton und das Readymade

Kirsty Bell

Vortrag in englischer Sprache anlässlich der Ausstellung
„Wade Guyton. Zwei Dekaden MCMXCIX-MMXIX“

Tool and Material, or Wade Guyton and the Readymade
Kirsty Bell

Lecture in English

The central activity in Wade Guyton’s work is an act of transference, in which the inevitability of reproduction becomes a primary fact. In his sculptures and paintings, both materials and means of production can be seen as readymades, in which an existing object or methodology is adopted as a surrogate. This talk will trace the evolution of Guyton’s work in relation to the readymade, and examine how this hundred-year-old artistic category now finds itself situated within an everyday whose materiality is defined by the compulsive production of images.
